imagine lifting a 20 pound weight for 6 hours strait in the hot sun, for days in a row. but it is worth it since it is all about getting our culture back. also I am one of the few how still paddle the whole way many people take turns in a canoe, which I try to avoid since my ancestors never had a power boat full of relief paddlers.
your town always gives a great welcome, so many other places only have other natives coming to greet us but when we get to port angeles the whole town seems to come out.
Humming birds are starting to become endamgered in the northwest coast due to clearcut logging in both thier habitats (northwest and mexico) this year on vancouver island only 1/3 came back.
my tribe on vancouver island (T'Sou-ke) is closely related to both the klallam and makah tribes) and I this is the style of art that I make.
Did you get to see the Paddle Journey canoes this year? Do they go by Vancouver? They had some beautifully painted boats. I did not know that about the birds. There are always a lot of them here in Port Angeles. I'd hate to not see them
the journeys does go to Vancouver but my tribe is on the west coast of Vancouver island (near victoria) and actually right across the water from you. it takes us about 6-8 hours of paddling to get to port angeles from where we are in Sooke.
loverly!
